The 2021 Honours and Awards Presentation Ceremony was held at the ballroom of Government House starting from 20 November for three consecutive days. On the first day of the Ceremony, The Chief Executive, Mrs Carrie Lam, presented the Grand Bauhinia Medal (GBM) to Dr. Jonathan Choi, Standing Committee Member of the CPPCC and Chairman of Sunwah Group in recognition of his distinguished service and contribution to Hong Kong.
The Grand Bauhinia Medal is the highest award under the HKSAR Honours and Awards System. The Award was first presented in 1997 to recognize the selected person's life-long and highly significant contribution to the well-being of Hong Kong. Dr. Choi has been presented the Bronze Bauhinia Star and the Gold Bauhinia Star Awards previously.
The Hong Kong SAR Government expressed appreciation to Dr. Choi's dedication to promoting the economic and social development of Hong Kong over the years. He has rendered staunch support to Hong Kong businesses in overcoming challenges in the ever-changing business environment, building networks, and strengthening economic ties among Hong Kong, the Mainland and overseas trading partners. He also fervently promotes Hong Kong's unique advantages as the key link and prime platform for the Belt and Road Initiative, and offers constructive advice in enhancing Hong Kong's competitiveness and growth potential.
Dr. Choi expressed his feeling after the ceremony: This is the honour awarded by the Hong Kong SAR, which is also the honour of Sunwah Group. The China Dream is also Sunwah Dream. We will strive to build a better Sunwah and our nation at our era with no regrets.
